OVERVIEW

The goal of this conference is to increase the participant’s knowledge of current advances in the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease with an emphasis on both interventional and non-interventional modalities.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This annual premier event features local and nationally recognized faculty and focuses on the specific needs of those in primary care, internal medicine, family practice, and general cardiology.

OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Review the relevance and significance of the available clinical trials regarding the clinical efficacy and safety of the anti-platelet agents clopidogrel, prasugrel, and ticagrelor.

  • Summarize the results and treatment implications of landmark clinical trials in cardiology including RE-LY [use of dabigatran]; ACTION – HF [cardiac rehab for patients with chronic heart failure]; HEARTMATE – II DT [realistic long-term mechanical support for advanced HF].

  • Assess the benefits and limitations of efforts to improve the prediction of CHD over and above the Framingham risk score.

  • Review the diagnostic tests available for the evaluation of syncopal episodes and their appropriate use.

  • Delineate secondary causes for hypertension, including key clinical features and appropriate diagnostic and treatment options.

  • Discuss ablation therapy, its indications, results, and limitations of use in patients with cardiac tachyarrhythmias.

  • Apply evidence-based guidelines and quality measures to assess medical vs IVC filter vs venous thrombectomy therapies for DVT.
